Gifts and in-kind donations of all sorts have helped us further our work, and brought opportunity and resources to families in need of a decent place to call home. Contributions large and small continue to make a difference, and we believe there is something every company can give to allow us to help even more families build better futures.
What are in-kind donations?
When organizations donate goods or services, those donations are considered gifts-in-kind. Habitat accepts large quantities of in-kind gifts like building materials, furniture, appliances and more. One of our most valued gifts-in-kind are the materials used to build homes.
Additionally, in some cases, retailers with overstock items donate those goods. Donations like these are usually sold in our ReStore home improvement stores, with the proceeds benefiting Habitat.
We have become experts in creativity and we enjoy working with companies who want to donate building materials for home construction or overstock items for resale, so don’t hesitate to contact us about your desired donation.
How to coordinate your gifts-in-kind
Our partners help make our work at Habitat possible. Gift in-kind donors submit a breakdown of costs of services and/or supplies. Habitat will send a thank you letter acknowledging the donation. The donor is responsible for assigning a fair market value to the Gift in-kind for his or her own tax purposes.
Examples of in-kind donations include:
- Food and drink for our special events
- Plumbing, HVAC and electrical supplies
- Office supplies, equipment and furniture
- New building materials like siding, pipes, wires, and electrical switches that Habitat would otherwise have to purchase
- Recycled materials (and help the environment) – gently used building materials, appliances, furniture and more
- A donation of land
