Henderson County Habitat for Humanity Launches New Home Repair Program

06/29/2015

Hendersonville, NC (June 29, 2015) - Henderson County Habitat for Humanity is launching a new Home Repair Program to meet the needs of existing homeowners who face significant repair issues and concerns without the finances or ability to combat them. An initial grant of $7,500 from TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank® enables the program to obtain the supplies necessary to begin projects in the community.

"We are pleased to partner with TD Charitable Foundation on Habitat's new home repair program," says Ron Laughter, President & CEO of Henderson County Habitat for Humanity. "With this new program, we can help many Henderson County homeowners with important maintenance needs on their existing homes."

In response to this need, which is most urgent for families with annual incomes between 30 and 80 percent of the median income in Henderson County, Habitat for Humanity is broadening its scope of services to include exterior home repair, exterior painting, ground improvements, and weatherization repairs. Assisting low-income homeowners who are affected by age, disability or family circumstances, the Home Repair Program preserves the integrity of many homes in the community, addressing the health and safety of individual residences and helping to preserve affordable housing stock in the area.

The grant from TD Charitable Foundation is the program's first source of funding and enables the purchase of the equipment necessary to make improvements through exterior painting and staining, porch and roof repairs, modifications for greater accessibility, improvements to indoor air quality and energy efficiency, and general landscaping. Additional grant opportunities are being investigated, but individual donations and corporate sponsorships will also add to the program's resources.

Homeowners are provided with 0% interest financing on short-term loans as part of the benefits of the program. The loans, which the homeowners pay back, are offered at a very reduced cost due to the volunteer labor. Homeowners may apply for services beginning in December by contacting the Habitat for Humanity's Hendersonville office directly.

Volunteer efforts are the driving force of the program, uniting the community under the mission of helping all in residence thrive. The search for additional volunteers to support the program will begin in the fall. To get involved and donate time, talents, materials or funding to this program, call 828-694-0340.
